Based north of the 49th parallel, John Skene, also known as Upcycle, is an electronic music producer and DJ with a style that is described as hypnotic, dark, and pseudo- nostalgic. Seamlessly upcycling, motifs and sounds from previous eras into his music, creating a Déjà vu-inducing sound that is chill yet energizing. His music is designed to be listened to with closed eyes, evoking an illusion of familiarity sending listeners into a distant dreamlike state. 

As the co-founder of Mortar & Pestle Records, Upcycle is dedicated to supporting evocative, experimental, and hyper- hypnotic sounds. With a passion for late nights and altered states of mind, Upcycle has been involved in the dance music scene for decades, honing his craft and creating a unique sonic elixir from his experiences.
